Three Oaks
is located in the Southwest corner of Berrien County, Michigan, which is situated in the Southwest corner of the state. This is within the trademarked geographic region known as “Harbor Country,” which is limited to the eight lakeshore communities of Three Oaks, Michiana, Grand Beach, New Buffalo, Union Pier, Lakeside, Harbert and Sawyer. Three Oaks lies slightly inland from the lake. These tightly knit communities encompass a stretch of approximately 15 miles north along Lake Michigan and six miles inland. The residents of Harbor Country have managed to keep major development and urban sprawl out of their area, thus this has allowed the communities to retain their quaint, rural atmosphere – which is a major draw for tourists to the area. Harbor Country has an uncrowded, rural landscape, with rolling hills, vineyards and picturesque farms, along with the beautiful Lake Michigan shoreline. In the 1980s, this unique area became known as the “Hamptons of the Midwest,” and became home to some of the most famous Lake Michigan shoreline resorts. The area has also become a haven for artists who are inspired by the natural beauty of their surroundings. Harbor Country is a very diverse area, home to magnificent sand dunes and Warren Woods State Preserve and Warren Dunes State Park. Award winning wineries, shopping and live theater, fine dining and championship golf courses combine with the relaxed, casual atmosphere to make it not only a great vacation destination – but a fine place to live and raise a family, also.
The quality of life in Berrien County is excellent. Several hospitals form the Lakeland Regional Health System, with three facilities in the town of St. Joseph, one in Niles and one in Berrien Center. There is also a community hospital in the town of Watervliet. Schools are top-notch and include both public and private, as well as several adult education centers and universities and higher learning institutions. The area is also served by many retail shopping areas, including a major shopping mall at Benton Charter Township. The other smaller communities of Harbor Country, including Three Oaks, offer lots of places to shop for antiques, one-of-a-kind treasures at specialty shops, fresh farm markets and beautiful wineries.
At the time of the 2000 census, the average monthly costs for homeowners in the Three Oaks area was $772 and the median rent was $394. Three Oaks area real estate agents are very skilled and knowledgeable in helping you find the perfect real estate to fit your needs.
